      Community gardens are volunteer led and managed at the local level to encourage sustainability and community capacity building. The Brant Community Garden Project is made up of a network of community gardens and work with the municipality and community organizations to manage the success of these sites. Currently the project has 14 community garden sites that are public or resident/participant specific.

      The Brantford Farmers’ Market has a wide range of product offerings, including; fresh produce, meats, deli cuts, dairy products, flowers, fresh baked goods, home made prepared food, fresh roasted nuts, home made candies & crafts, a breakfast & lunch counter serving hot foods and other natural products.

      The Farmers’ Market serves between 1500 and 3500 people each Market week. There are 49 indoor stalls open for business all year, with an additional 15 - 20 outdoor stalls which are open during the peak harvest seasons (from May to October).

    • Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program
      We are here to help support the health of you and your baby. This free drop-in program is held at The Ontario Early Years Centre. There is no need to register, just show up and learn about a number of topics related to pregnancy and parenting, including nutrition, labour & delivery, breastfeeding and infant care.

      You can join the group at any time in your pregnancy and stay until your baby is 6 months old. The prenatal component of the program runs from 4:15 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.

      Once you have your baby, you can continue to participate in the postnatal component of this program until your baby is six months of age. You can bring one person with you as your support.

    • Christmas Hamper
      The Christmas Food Hampers will include:

      * Fresh carrots, apples and potatoes
      * Ham for singles
      * Turkey appropriate for the size of the family

      Additional items may include:

      * Stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, canned fruit and vegetables
      * Juice, pasta, soups and other donated items

      If you need toys for your children, you may receive:

      * One new toy for each child
      * Other items as donated, such as knitted goods, books, games and gently recycled toys


    • Community Food Advisor Program
      The Community Food Advisor (CFA) Program is a group of trained volunteers who can provide education in the following topics:healthy eating, menu planning, healthy eating on a budget, preparing quick and easy meals, cooking basics, healthy snacks, food preservation and canning, food safety, safe food handling and hand washing.

      Examples of CFA activities include: leading workshops on the healthy eating, safe food handling at home, presentations for community groups; facilitating community food programs such as community kitchens; and conducting cooking classes and food demonstrations.

    • First Baptist Church
      The Food Cupboard is a ministry in our community that helps to reduce hunger and provides a caring presence for those in need. Food is organized, packaged and distributed weekly on Thursday mornings. Clients may attend our Food Cupboard every two weeks.

    • Food Bank (Community Resource Service)
      Food Bank & Distribution provides support to both individuals needing food, and to community-based programs that support those needing food.

      Individuals and families needing help could be:
      - Seniors
      - Youth
      - Homeless
      - Working two jobs to get by
      - Disabled
      - Newcomers to our community
      - Working mothers & fathers, with circumstances that have left them in a situation in which they have to ask for help


    • Food Handler Training Program
      The Food Safety Certificate Course is designed to help you further develop your skills for working in the Food Service Industry. During the sessions, you will learn:
      - to recognize potential food safety hazards;
      - how to store foods properly;
      - developing better cleaning procedures that control the growth of bacteria;
      - how to avoid unnecessary waste;
      - what are food premise regulations and how they affect you.

    • Friendship House After School Program
      The focus of our Kids Programs is on building relationships and sharing Christ's love in a caring environment. This time together provides a time for children to enjoy friendship, fun, games, crafts and healthy snacks. If you're into computers, video games, lego, woodworking, sewing, crafts - or just hanging out with your friends in the games room or quiet area - come and visit us!

    • Friendship House Kids Breakfast Club
      We provide nutritious food and companionship to elementary school children, giving them a great start to their school day!

      Growing Healthy Together is the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program that is here to help support the health of you and your baby.       Hot meals delivered Tuesday to Friday ($6.00 per meal).

      Frozen meals ordered on Mondays for Tuesday delivery ($35.00 for 7 frozen meals). Frozen meals can be delivered in the County of Brant for a fee.

      The Registered Dietitian at Grand River Community Health Centre provides one-on-one counselling for a variety of nutrition-related topics. By appointment only.

      Services available to both rostered patients of the CHC and individuals in the community. Also provides community education through cooking courses, classes and presentations.
